Students
Students at Queen Elizabeth are actively involved in a variety of school initiatives. Intermediate students represent the student population through the Student Council. Students show leadership in their excellent team spirit and sportsmanship as they represent their school at various sporting events. Student leadership is recognized on a regular basis through classroom and school announcements, newsletters, assemblies, Queen Elizabeth Certificates and Terrific Kids Assemblies. Students also raise money through the Kids Helping Kids program to benefit those in need.
Staff
Our staff members have a wealth of professional qualifications including Bachelor and Master degrees in Arts, Fine Arts, Physical Education, Science as well as holding additional qualifications in areas such as Special Education, Guidance, English as a Second Language, French as a Second Language and Computers. The Staff are actively involved in both Board‐wide and other learning opportunities to enhance student learning. Staff members have given generously of their time by coaching sport teams, producing a school musical and heritage festival, leading bands, mentoring students in leadership roles and the initiation of a Caring Adult Program that helps to support students at risk. The Staff have been involved in professional book clubs and learning communities to further enhance their learning and that of their students. Ongoing professional development through workshops and post‐graduate courses are undertaken by many of our staff members and shared with others. We recognize staff leadership through personal interactions, letters of thanks, school announcements, school newsletters, assemblies, staff meetings, Principal’s Report to School Council and performance appraisals.
Parents/Guardians/Volunteers
Community and Parent Volunteers have contributed hundreds of hours of support to the students and staff at Queen Elizabeth PS. Our dedicated School Council meets monthly and contributes in many ways to enhance the K‐8 school programs and activities. Our School Council is actively involved and supports school initiatives such as fundraising and community building events like our famous Heritage Night Pot Luck Dinner. As invaluable partners, we thank our parents, guardians and volunteers on an on‐going basis, and look for opportunities to acknowledge them through such things as the school newsletter, the Principal’s Report to the School Council, school announcements and our Annual Volunteer Appreciation Event.
Community
Queen Elizabeth is extremely appreciative of our community partnerships. Last year our volunteers contributed countless hours of support for the benefit of students in our school. In addition, the school continues to receive tremendous support from Borden, Ladner and Gervais through their participation in the Ottawa Reads program and the Give Back to School Day. The Kiwanis Club is actively involved with our monthly Terrific Kids program. Many of our students attend the neighbourhood Boys and Girls Club sports and homework program as well as the new HEROS Hockey program. As invaluable partners, we thank our parents and volunteers on an on‐going basis, through school announcements, our Principal’s Report to School Council, newsletters, and our annual volunteer breakfast.
